Copenhagen Design Week: The Emerging & The Established

Copenhagen Design Week Is Home To Both The Emerging And Establishedproducts in an operative and natural setting.

However, owing to the festival's popularity and growth, no matter how kind the ethos, emerging brands may still find themselves elbowing for room amongst existing big names in the industry. This isn't something that has escaped the Danish design-sphere, with this year being the debut of Other Circle, the new multidisciplinary design exhibition taking place fifteen minutes away. Held at The Lab in Østerbro, Other Circle brings together 50 multidisciplinary exhibitors, from furniture to clothes, galleries, music, artists and tech companies. It's big enough to draw the design crowd from the city centre without getting lost in sheer numbers. "It's hard to attract attention when you have Hay and Kvadrat around the corner," Director Svend Jacob Pederson tells Dezeen. "We have so much respect for what 3daysofdesign has built. But I believe it's at a point where it's too big for one organisation to take full responsibility for curation. To maintain the same level of quality, I think it needs more independent actors." In Copenhagen, where the city is walkable, weather temperate and locals welcoming, it's encouraging to see design growth and success not come at the expense of the smaller players who champion it.
